Piano
Jim is one of Milwaukee's favorite pianists.  He has been highlighted on local television, and he is being recognized from Door County to Chicago to Minneapolis.  Jim is Resident Artist at the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, also known as "The Domes".
At the age of nine, Jim began playing piano by ear and then went on to formal lessons.  Since the age of eleven, he has performed in a variety of diverse venues including community and corporate events, private parties, theaters, charitable events, weddings, and more.  Jim provides a beautiful variety of musical entertainment from his extensive repertoire by performing classical, show tunes, country, contemporary, holiday songs, jazz, pop, children's favorites, love songs, the 50's, and more, as well as his own original compositions.  Ten years of studying mostly classical piano at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music under pianist and composer, S. Marion Verhaalen, four years of classical at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee under Professor J. Jaimes, and some summer lessons with jazz pianist, Mark Davis, enables Jim to play with depth and emotion in all music genres, conveying that heartfelt feeling to his listeners.  His endearing and concise style make every performance unique and memorable.  Beginning at age thirteen, Jim won awards and/or recognition for piano solo.  He has 4 WSMA gold medals and 1 silver and 2 NFMC gold cups in piano solo.
Composition
Since the age of ten, Jim has composed and won awards and/or recognition for his original compositions.  He has an NFMC gold cup in composition and seven award-winning compositions.  His most recent win was in 2010 when he placed in Latin music in the USA Songwriting Competition.  He studied composing with S. Marion Verhaalen, and he was in the Composer's Program at UWM under Music Chair and instructor, Dr. Jon Welstead.  Jim creates all types of music such as Classical, Latin, pop, dance, Asian and more.  Composing is his passion.  His arrangements and remixes have also won compoetitions and/or brought him recognition.
Degrees and Memberships
Jim is an Honors Gold Cords Graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in December 2011.  He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Music Composition and Technology.  Jim is a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Society of Composers, Inc., ASCAP, National Scholars, Golden Key International, and UWM Alumni Association.

At the age of nine, Jim began playing piano by ear and then went on to formal lessons.  Since 1994 at the age of ten, he has performed in a variety of diverse venues including community and corporate events, private parties, theaters, Christmas parties, malls, clubs, lounges, fairs, charitable events, weddings, and more.  Jim provides a beautiful variety of musical entertainment from his extensive repertoire by performing Classical, Show Tunes, Country, Contemporary, holiday songs, Jazz, Pop, children's favorites, love songs, the 50's, and more, as well as his own original compositions.  At the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Jim studied Classical and other piano music for eight years with pianist and composer, S. Marion Verhaalen, and currently takes Jazz lessons with jazz pianist, Mark Davis.  At the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Jim studied Classical music for four years with Professor Judit Jaimes. These years of piano studies enable Jim to play with depth and emotion in all music genres, conveying that heartfelt feeling to his listeners.  His endearing and concise style make every performance unique and memorable.  He is always learning new material to refresh and increase his repertoire.  Beginning at age thirteen, Jim won awards and/or recognition for piano solo.  He has 4 WSMA gold medals and 1 silver and 2 NFMC gold cups in piano solo.


Composition

Since the age of ten, Jim has composed and won awards and/or recognition for his original compositions.  He has an NFMC gold cup in composition and seven award-winning compositions.  Jim was in the Young Composers' group at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music with S. Marion Verhaalen, pianist and composer, and he was in the Composer's Program at UWM under Music Chair and instructor, Dr. Jon Welstead.  Jim creates all types of music such as Classical, Latin, Pop, Dance, Asian and more. Composing is his passion.  His arrangements and remixes have also won competitions and/or brought him recognition. On December 2nd, 2012, Jim's original composition The Darkness of Night was featured on the international radio program Coast-to-Coast AM with George Noory.

 

Vocals 

Jim sings select pieces of music while playing full piano.  He sang with the UWM Men of Song choir from 2003-2007.  He had classes in Voice and Basic Diction at UWM.  He studied with Phillip Pearl, vocalist, at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music 2013-2014.
